Jesper Raakjær is a Professor at the Department of Sustainability and Planning, Aalborg University, affiliated with the Technical Faculty of IT and Design. His expertise spans marine governance, fisheries management, and sustainable development, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to ocean health and responsible consumption. He holds a D.Sc. (2009) and PhD (1992) in relevant fields.
Research focuses on ecosystem-based fisheries management, climate adaptation in Arctic fisheries, and port-hinterland sustainability. Key projects include MARINE SABRES (2022–2026) addressing marine biodiversity resilience and ECOTIP (2020–2024) assessing Arctic ecosystem tipping points. He co-leads AEGIS (2020–2023), advancing green intermodal transport systems.
Publications emphasize governance frameworks, policy analysis, and participatory approaches. Notable outputs include critiques of the EU Common Fisheries Policy and analyses of stakeholder roles in marine management. Awards include the 2022 Best Paper Award on Smart Shipping innovations.
Consultancy work includes advising the Port of Aalborg since 2016 and supporting Vietnam's fisheries policy reforms. Media engagements address port development challenges and policy debates. Supervised 3 PhD students and actively participates in academic conferences and policy dialogues.
