Jerrilynn D. Burrowes is a Professor of Nutrition, Chair of the Department of Nutrition, and Director of the Graduate Program in Nutrition at Long Island University's School of Health Professions. She is an internationally recognized clinical nutrition leader in kidney disease, with extensive research and leadership experience in nephrology nutrition.

Dr. Burrowes' research focuses on the nutrition assessment and management of adults with Stage 5 chronic kidney disease on maintenance dialysis. Her work explores appetite and health outcomes, nutritional status improvement in geriatric patients, cultural influences on dietary adherence, potassium leaching from root vegetables, and the interplay between sleep patterns and nutritional problems. She is also engaged in evidence-based studies of complementary and alternative therapies for kidney failure.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in clinical nutrition research, particularly in hemodialysis, dietary adherence, and patient outcomes. Many of her studies are linked to the landmark NIH-sponsored HEMO Study, contributing to evidence-based guidelines in renal nutrition. Her editorial leadership includes co-editing two editions of Nutrition in Kidney Disease and serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Renal Nutrition.

She is actively involved with the Journal of Renal Nutrition as Editor-in-Chief and collaborates with teams in the International Society for Renal Nutrition and Metabolism and the National Kidney Foundation. Her work continues to shape clinical practice and research in renal nutrition globally.
