Jerome C. Foss is a Professor of Politics and the Endowed Director of the Saint Vincent Center for Catholic Thought and Culture at Saint Vincent College. He holds a BA in Politics from the University of Dallas and MA/PhD in Political Science from Baylor University. His roles include directing the SVC Core Curriculum, leading the Summer Institute in Rome, and co-leading the Benedictine Leadership Studies Program with Dr. Michael Krom. He also directs the Sanctity of Life interdisciplinary minor and serves on the Board of the Society for Catholic Social Scientists as a Fellow of the Center for Political and Economic Thought.
His research focuses on American political thought, Catholic political theory, and the intersection of literature and politics. Key works include Flannery O’Connor and the Perils of Governing by Tenderness and Constitutional Democracy and Judicial Supremacy: John Rawls and the Transformation of American Politics. His recent publications analyze topics like judicial supremacy, Flannery O’Connor’s political philosophy, and Tocqueville’s influence.
Awarded the Thoburn Teaching Award (2021) and Projektenmacher Award (2022), Foss actively organizes academic conferences, reading groups, and public lectures. His professional activities include partnerships with Fides et Ratio Seminars and contributions to journals like Conversatio and Catholic Social Science Review.
