Jeroen Jansen, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Pharmacy. He serves as a core faculty member with the UCSF Center for Translational and Policy Research on Precision Medicine (TRANSPERS).
Dr. Jansen is a methodologist working at the intersection of evidence synthesis, biostatistics, and health economics. His research has frequently been conducted in the context of health technology assessment (HTA), with a focus on comparative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. His work includes the development of novel statistical methods to overcome challenges in model-based cost-effectiveness evaluations, particularly those characterized by gaps in the evidence base and complex evidence structures. He has led initiatives to develop guidance for consumers and producers of network meta-analysis studies and has promoted a more transparent and credible approach to model-based health economic evaluations.
Dr. Jansen's current research interests include the clinical and economic value of new health technologies, incorporating distributional impacts in health economic modeling studies, and statistical methods for evidence synthesis. His work often addresses health disparities and equity considerations in healthcare evaluation. He has been involved in developing open-source simulation models and an R software package for health economic evaluations.
His publication record shows consistent productivity with over 150 publications spanning from 2001 to 2025, with particular emphasis on methodological innovations in network meta-analysis, indirect treatment comparisons, and distributional cost-effectiveness analysis. His work spans multiple therapeutic areas with significant focus on oncology, precision medicine, and health equity considerations.
Dr. Jansen received his PhD in Epidemiology from Erasmus University, Rotterdam, Netherlands in December 2004. His academic journey has focused on bridging methodological rigor with practical applications in healthcare decision making.
His collaborative work spans multiple institutions, with notable collaborations including work with Kathryn Phillips, Jason Shafrin, Michael Douglas, and Meera Ragavan. His methodological contributions have significantly influenced best practices in health technology assessment and evidence synthesis.
