Jerko Gunjača is a Full Professor at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture, affiliated with the Department of Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biometrics. He specializes in quantitative genetics, genotype-environment interaction analysis, and applied genetic research for crop improvement.
- Education: PhD (2001), MSc (1998), and BSc (1992) in Plant Sciences from University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture
Research Focus: His work addresses genetic stability in crops, molecular data analysis, and optimization of breeding programs for drought tolerance and quality traits. He has developed biometric models for multi-environment trials and explored epigenetic diversity in endemic plant species.
Key Projects: Coordinated EU-funded CroP-BioDiv center, Croatian Science Foundation grants for maize drought tolerance and bean bioactive compounds, and regional sustainability initiatives for crops like millet and wheat.
Awards: Recognized with a Fulbright scholarship for international research collaboration.
Teaching & Leadership: President of the Plant Variety Testing Committee and instructor in biometrics, experimental design, and quantitative genetics courses.
