Jeremy Stewart is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Queen’s University. His research focuses on understanding vulnerability to suicidal and self-injurious behavior in youth, examining factors such as executive functioning, impulsivity, peer rejection, and reward responsiveness. He holds a B.A. (Honors) from Queen’s University (2006), an M.Sc. (2009), and a Ph.D. (2014) in Psychology from the same institution.
His research explores how individual differences and environmental stressors contribute to suicide risk escalation. Key areas include cognitive control deficits in suicide ideators, the role of peer victimization, and neurophysiological markers of risk. Recent work has investigated oculomotor avoidance behaviors and healthcare experiences in transgender populations.
Dr. Stewart collaborates with institutions like Columbia University and Harvard Medical School, and his lab focuses on translational research to improve clinical interventions for at-risk youth. He advises graduate students in experimental psychology and clinical research methodologies.
His work has been supported by grants focusing on adolescent mental health, and he maintains an active lab site for research collaboration. He emphasizes ethical considerations in suicide risk monitoring and has developed assessment tools like the Adolescent STRAIN inventory.
