Regina Miranda is a Professor in the Psychology Department at Hunter College, CUNY, within the School of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on suicide ideation in young people, aiming to inform assessment, treatment, and prevention strategies. She co-founded the Youth Suicide Research Consortium to enhance diversity in youth suicide research.
Dr. Miranda holds a BA in Psychology from Yale University (1997), a PhD in Clinical Psychology from New York University (2004), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University's Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2004–2005).
Her research addresses four key areas: understanding the nature of suicidal thoughts, linking repetitive thinking and hopelessness to suicide risk, exploring cultural influences on suicide risk, and developing cognitive interventions to reduce suicidal ideation. She emphasizes mentorship that encourages students to integrate their authentic identities into their work.
Dr. Miranda’s career is driven by her commitment to addressing disparities faced by underrepresented groups in mental health research. She leads the Miranda Lab and advocates for inclusive scholarly environments.
