Jeremy Robin Schneider is a historian of early modern science affiliated with Trinity College, University of Cambridge as a Research Fellow. He holds a PhD from Princeton University (2023) and will join Cornell University as an Assistant Professor of History in 2025. His work bridges environmental, sensory, and intellectual history.
Research focuses on premodern understandings of species extinction and sensory practices in science. Key projects include The Graveyard of Shells (exploring fossil-based extinct species concepts) and Science and Sense (analyzing blind practitioners' nonvisual methodologies). Awards include the 2024 Caspar Friedrich Wolff Medal and 2023 Ronald Rainger Prize.
Education includes BA/MA from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (Munich), training at UC Berkeley and Caltech, and editorial work on the Collected Papers of Albert Einstein. Teaching experience spans Cambridge, Princeton, Munich, and NJDOC prisons. His research has been supported by DAAD, NSF, Mellon Foundation, and Smithsonian Institution.
