معرفی
Dr. Jeremy Fein is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at the University of Notre Dame, affiliated with the College of Engineering. His research focuses on geomicrobiology and actinide mineral solubility, addressing heavy metal and radionuclide fate in groundwater systems. He leads the Experimental Geochemistry and Geomicrobiology Lab and the Center for Environmental Science and Technology (CEST).
Research emphasizes bacterial-metal interactions, including adsorption, redox reactions, and precipitation mechanisms, with applications to nuclear waste management and environmental remediation. Key projects include thermodynamic modeling of actinide mineral stability and surface complexation controls on metal bioavailability.
- Current lab members: Shannon Flynn (PhD student), Qiang Yu (PhD student), Ryan Nell (PhD student), Dungang Gu (visiting scholar)
- Former advisees: 20+ PhD graduates including David Borrok (Professor at University of Louisiana) and Daniel Alessi (Professor at University of Alberta)
Publications span over 80 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work on bacterial sulfhydryl sites, graphene oxide-metal interactions, and uranyl nanocluster behavior. Collaborations involve facilities like the Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) at Notre Dame and Argonne National Laboratory.
Grants and funding support advanced analytical methods (ICP-MS, XAFS) and interdisciplinary projects linking geochemistry with microbiology.
