Dr. Jereme Spiers is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Australian National University within the Eccles Institute of Neuroscience, specifically contributing to the Clear Vision Research Group. His research focuses on neuroinflammatory oxidative stress in neurodegenerative diseases, with a vision to identify cell-type-specific RNA and proteomic fingerprints during disease pathogenesis.
- Education: PhD in Neuroscience (The University of Queensland), BSc (Hons)
Research Interests: Jereme's work bridges neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and extracellular vesicle (EV) biology. He investigates how EVs from neurons and glia propagate neuroinflammatory signals in diseases like prion disease, ALS, and Alzheimer's. His studies also explore redox stress, nitric oxide signaling, and stress-induced molecular changes in brain and peripheral tissues.
Publication Trends: Over the past five years, his research has centered on:
- EVs in prion and neurodegenerative diseases
- Stress-induced neuroinflammatory and oxidative markers
- BDNF polymorphism effects on behavior
- MicroRNA regulation of neuroinflammation
- Metal ion homeostasis under stress
- Nitric oxide-modulated synaptic and neuronal function
