Jens Wiltfang

Prof. Dr. Jens Wiltfang serves as Director of the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG), affiliated with the University of Göttingen. His leadership drives clinical and research innovation in dementia diagnostics and neurodegenerative disorders through the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Göttingen.

His research pioneers minimally invasive blood-based diagnostic methods for preclinical Alzheimer's detection, focusing on beta-amyloid peptide quotients, neurofilament light chains, and GFAP biomarkers. Utilizing antibody-based biosensors with Fourier-transformed near-infrared spectroscopy and attomolar-sensitive immunoassays, his work targets high-risk identification in subjective cognitive deficit (SCD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) stages to enable preventive pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.

Prof. Wiltfang's group established internationally recognized biomarker protocols now embedded in S3 dementia guidelines (DGN/DGPPN) and leads the Human Imaging and Brain Bank alongside the Swarm Learning Hub at DZNE. These initiatives facilitate large-scale collaborative neuroimaging analysis and machine learning applications for dementia prediction across European research networks.

His team actively conducts clinical trials exploring electrophysiological neurostimulation, physical activity regimens, and nutritional strategies for dementia prevention while contributing to consortia like the Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration German study group.
