Dr. Jens Hopperdietzel is an Assistant Professor (Akademischer Rat a.Z.) at the Department of German Language and Literature I, University of Cologne, under the chair of Klaus von Heusinger. He coordinates the DFG-Scientific Network 'Applicative alternations across languages (AAAL)' and is affiliated with the University of Manchester’s Department of Linguistics and the CRC1252 'Prominence in Language' at Cologne. His research focuses on syntax-morphology-semantics interfaces, typology, and fieldwork in under-documented languages like Daakaka (Vanuatu) and Samoan.
Academic career highlights include roles as a Research Associate in ERC and DFG-funded projects at the University of Manchester and Humboldt University Berlin, and postdoctoral research stays at the University of Hawai’i and National University of Samoa.
