Jens Damgaard Thaysen is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Culture and Learning, Aalborg University, within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. His research focuses on analytical political philosophy and legal philosophy, particularly democratic equality, moral limits of law, and distributive justice. He holds a PhD from Aarhus University (2017) titled On the Liberty of Scoundrels - Wrongfulness and the Justifiability of Criminalization.
Key research areas include: democratic participation mechanisms (e.g., compulsory voting), moral justification of criminalization, autonomy vs. coercion in legal systems, and responsibility-sensitive distributive justice theories. He collaborates on projects like What is mine to give, but not to sell: The moral limits of the market (2022-2025) and Can liberal democracies solve climate change? (2022).
Recent publications explore topics like mandated choice policies, ethical dilemmas in organ markets, and voting system design.
