Jenny Sharpe

Jenny Sharpe is a Professor of English, Comparative Literature, and Gender Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Texas, Austin. Her research focuses on postcolonial theory, Caribbean literature, archive studies, and the Black Atlantic, with an emphasis on colonial and postcolonial dynamics, gender, and affective memory.

Dr. Sharpe’s teaching includes graduate courses on postcolonial theory, the postcolonial archive, and postmodernism in postcolonial fiction, alongside undergraduate courses on Caribbean contact zones, literature, and postmodernism. Her work bridges literary analysis with critical theory, addressing themes such as colonial violence, diasporic identity, and cultural representation.

Her articles explore topics ranging from Erna Brodber’s Caribbean fiction to the intersections of globalization and gender in Bollywood cinema. Notable works include analyses of M. Nourbese Philip’s *Zong!*, Édouard Duval-Carrié’s art, and the conceptualization of diaspora through Stuart Hall’s theories.
