Jenny Mercein is an Associate Professor at Tulane University’s Department of Theatre & Dance within the School of Liberal Arts. A multifaceted artist, she combines teaching with acting, directing, and writing. She holds a B.A. in Theater Studies and Art History from Yale University and an M.F.A. in Acting from the University of Washington. Mercein is a proud member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA, with extensive theater and television credits.
Her research and creative work focus on social justice themes, including consent education through performance, as seen in her acclaimed project Roleplay, which explores student perspectives on love, power, and consent. She co-created the docudrama X's and O's, addressing football and traumatic brain injury, and directed works like Grýla- Not For Children and Dancing at Lughnasa.
- Recent projects include the solo show Two Elizas (2024), exploring her ancestral legal case, and a 2024 NYC run of Alexander Klaus following its Edinburgh Fringe success.
Her awards include the 2020 Big Easy Award for Best Ensemble and the Rella Lossy Award for X's and O's. Mercein’s work bridges academic and artistic realms, emphasizing interdisciplinary storytelling and community impact.
