Jennifer W. Hill, PhD, is a tenured Professor at the University of Toledo College of Medicine with joint appointments in the Departments of Physiology & Pharmacology and Obstetrics & Gynecology. As Associate Director of Basic Research at the Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Research (CeDER), she integrates clinical and basic research to address metabolic-reproductive interactions. Her work spans hypothalamic regulation of energy homeostasis, neuroendocrine control of fertility, and metabolic disease pathophysiology.
Research interests focus on how leptin and insulin signaling in hypothalamic neurons (particularly Kiss1 and Sim1 cells) coordinate body weight and reproductive health. Her laboratory employs genetic manipulation techniques to investigate neuroendocrine mechanisms underlying conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome, exercise-induced amenorrhea, and obesity-related infertility.
Key scientific awards include:
- Taylor & Francis Top Author (2022)
- NIH R01 HD104418 (2022)
- Dean’s Research Excellence Award (2021)
- President’s Award for Grantsmanship (2019)
Her 2023-2025 publications reveal trends in astrocyte metabolism, spexin signaling, and IGF-1 receptor interactions with insulin receptors in regulating growth and reproduction. These works demonstrate expertise in translational neuroendocrinology linking metabolic stress to reproductive dysfunction.
