معرفی
Jennifer VanWyk is an Assistant Professor of Ecology and Global Change at Hampshire College. Previously, she taught ecology, entomology, environmental science, and experimental design at California State University, Chico, Mount Holyoke College, and UMass Amherst.
Education:
- B.A. in Biology (Focus: Botany), Vassar College
- M.S. and Ph.D. in Ecology, University of California, Davis
Research Focus: Jennifer is a community ecologist and entomologist specializing in native bee population dynamics. Her work examines disease transmission, plant-pollinator networks, environmental stressors, and community responses to human disturbances. She investigates how plant and insect traits mediate species interactions and broader ecological outcomes, particularly in agricultural contexts involving tomatoes, heatwaves, and protozoan bee parasites.
Teaching: She has designed courses like "Bees," "Ecology," "Disease Ecology," and "Experiments in Plant Ecology" that integrate primary literature analysis, experimental design, and fieldwork. Courses emphasize scientific writing, taxonomy, evolutionary concepts, and socio-cultural intersections with ecology.
Funding: Her research has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Health (NIH), and USDA-National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA).
