Jennifer R. Klemp is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She serves as the Director of Cancer Survivorship, the Co-Program Leader for Cancer Prevention and Control, and the co-leader of the Cancer Care Delivery and Health Equity Disease Working Group at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Her clinical-research practice focuses on cancer genetics and cancer survivorship.
Dr. Klemp received her educational training from the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA), a Master's in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1999, a Master's in Clinical Psychology (MA) in 2003, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PhD) in 2007. She also completed her internship in Health Psychology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago in 2006.
Dr. Klemp's research interests center around cancer genetics, cancer survivorship, and health care delivery models. She has developed community practices across the region using Project ECHO for increasing access to cancer genetic education and testing, along with implementing multi-disciplinary approaches to cancer survivorship. Her work bridges the gap between specialty and primary care for cancer survivors, with a particular focus on breast cancer. She has a strong interest in cognitive rehabilitation for cancer survivors and has explored innovative delivery methods including telehealth conferencing. Her research also addresses health disparities, particularly how health literacy impacts quality of life for breast cancer patients.
Analysis of Dr. Klemp's recent publications reveals a consistent focus on breast cancer survivorship, genetics, and care coordination. Her work spans clinical trials, implementation science, and health services research. A notable trend is her exploration of telehealth and digital tools to improve access to cancer care and education. Many of her studies address underserved populations and health equity issues in cancer care. Her research often involves multidisciplinary collaborations across institutions and specialties.
Dr. Klemp has received peer-reviewed funding including an NCI R01 focused on shared-care between oncology and primary care of cancer survivors. In 2012, she launched the 23rd start-up at the University of Kansas, focused on professional development and improving efficiency and access to evidence-based health care.
Dr. Klemp serves on numerous national boards and is recognized as a subject matter expert in cancer genetics and survivorship. She has presented nationally on cancer genetics, shared decision-making regarding options to manage cancer risk, and the development and implementation of cancer genetics, survivorship, and navigation programming. Her professional affiliations include the University of Kansas Medical Center Cancer Prevention and Control program, the Kansas Cancer Partnership, the University of Kansas Medical Center Institutional Review Board, and the Children's Mercy Cancer Center.
