Jane Turner is a Professor at the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland. With an extensive publication record spanning over two decades, her work primarily focuses on psycho-oncology, cancer survivorship, and psychosocial aspects of cancer care. She has led numerous significant research projects including the ACUMEN trial examining exercise interventions for women following gynaecological cancer treatment.
Professor Turner's research interests center on improving the psychosocial wellbeing of cancer patients through innovative interventions. Her work spans several key areas including fear of cancer recurrence, telehealth applications in oncology, prehabilitation programs before cancer surgery, and shared-care models for cancer survivors. She has made substantial contributions to understanding patient-reported outcomes, developing supportive care frameworks, and implementing evidence-based psychosocial interventions across various cancer types.
Her recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward implementing evidence-based interventions into routine cancer care, with particular emphasis on exercise oncology, digital health solutions, and multidisciplinary approaches to survivorship care. The ACUMEN trial and PREHAB-GI implementation studies represent significant efforts to bridge the gap between research evidence and clinical practice in cancer rehabilitation.
Professor Turner has collaborated extensively with researchers across Australia and internationally, working with multidisciplinary teams including oncologists, nurses, psychologists, and allied health professionals. Her leadership in developing clinical guidelines and implementation frameworks has contributed significantly to advancing psychosocial care standards in oncology.
She has been instrumental in developing and testing digital interventions such as 'Finding My Way-Advanced,' a web-based psychosocial program for women with metastatic breast cancer, and has contributed to establishing telehealth guidelines for psycho-oncology services. Her work consistently addresses critical gaps in cancer care delivery, focusing on practical implementation strategies that can be adopted in real-world healthcare settings.
