Dr. Pearson's publications appear in top journals including Gender & Society, Journal of Youth and Adolescence, Sociological Perspectives, Social Science Research, and Journal of LGBT Youth. Her research demonstrates how school cultures shape sexual development, particularly among young women, and examines the relationship between religious contexts and sexual identity formation.
She serves as faculty advisor for student organizations Spectrum: LGBTQ & Allies and Shocker Sociology Club, and works as Research Coordinator for GLSEN Kansas, facilitating research collaboration and translating findings to support community organizations and inform local policy.
Dr. Pearson emphasizes in her teaching how students can apply sociological tools to understand how social structures and inequalities impact their relationships, experiences, and behaviors. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications for creating more inclusive and equitable educational environments.
