Dr. Jodie Hertzog is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Wichita State University, within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. She holds dual roles as a former Department Chair (2012-2021) and Undergraduate Coordinator, emphasizing interdisciplinary education and applied learning. Her academic background includes a doctorate in Child Development and Family Studies from Purdue University.
Her research focuses on gender roles, adolescent relationships, youth violence prevention, and organizational culture. Notable projects include co-founding the Gender & Sexuality in Kansas conference and serving on WSU’s Prevention Advisory Board. She advocates for sexual harassment policy analysis, bystander intervention strategies, and feminist pedagogy through courses and community initiatives.
Dr. Hertzog has been recognized as a Suspenders4Hope Champion (2024) and nominated for major teaching awards at WSU. Her publications span sociology’s intersections with health, technology, and education, including studies on ultrasound impact on expectant grandmothers and cyberbullying dynamics. She actively engages students through organizations like FOCUS: Feminists on Campus and the Shocker Sociology Club.
