معرفی
Jennifer Merten, Ph.D., is a researcher at the Institute of Geography, Department of Human Geography, Georg-August-University Göttingen, Germany. Her work focuses on socio-ecological systems, resource governance, and land use transformations in tropical regions, particularly in Southeast Asia (Jambi, Indonesia) and Latin America. She contributes to interdisciplinary research projects like the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 990 and IRI THESys, integrating qualitative social research with natural science methods.
- Education: Master of Science in Geography (Resource Analysis and Management, 2013), Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Geography (2011), both from Georg-August-University Göttingen and Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Research interests include the hydrosocial cycle, climate vulnerability, and the intersection of environmental change with local livelihoods. Her doctoral project examines how land use change toward commercial tree plantations in Jambi, Indonesia, alters water cycles, governance dynamics, and community vulnerability to floods/droughts.
Publications highlight her expertise in tropical agriculture, water scarcity, and socio-environmental impacts. Recent articles address oil palm expansion’s effects on water cycles (2016, 2017), flood risk integration (2020), and smallholder land use decisions (2015).
Labs/Teams: Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 990 subproject C02, IRI THESys (Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems), and interdisciplinary networks combining natural and social science methodologies.
