Dr. Afik Hardanto serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Engineering at Jenderal Soedirman University, Indonesia, and concurrently as a researcher at Gadjah Mada University's Water and Irrigation Research Centre since 2009. His work focuses on water dynamics within tropical ecosystems undergoing land-use transformation.
His educational qualifications include:
- PhD in Tropical Silviculture and Forest Ecology from the University of Göttingen (2013-2017)
- M.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia (2009-2011)
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering (S.TP) from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia (2000-2005)
Research interests center on quantifying tree and palm water use characteristics in rainforest transformation systems, particularly through canopy metrics for predicting oil palm water consumption. This work bridges silvicultural practices with agricultural water management to address sustainability challenges in converted landscapes. His investigations contribute to understanding hydrological impacts of deforestation and plantation expansion in tropical lowlands.
Dr. Hardanto operates within the Irrigation and Water Management Laboratory at Jenderal Soedirman University and leads Project Group A02 in the CRC 990 consortium, which examines ecological and socio-economic functions of tropical rainforest transformation systems across Sumatra, Indonesia.
