Associate Professor Jennifer McDonell specializes in Victorian literature and human-animal studies at the University of New England's School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Her academic roles include serving as Associate Editor for Global Nineteenth-Century Studies, Chair of the UNE Academic Board Teaching Committee, and former Head of the Department of Literature, Languages and Cultures.
Her research examines intersections of species discourse with gender, class, and race in Victorian culture, with current projects exploring animal ethics, material culture, and Robert Browning's biography. Key research themes include:
