Dr. Jennifer Malsert is a postdoctoral researcher at the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences at the University of Geneva. Her research focuses on the application of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to investigate neural networks involved in emotional prosody, facial mimicry, and attentional-emotional processes under the supervision of Pr. Grandjean, Pr. Vuilleumier, Pr. Niedenthal, and Dr. Korb.
- Education: Biology and Neurophysiology (Universities of Chambéry, Montpellier), Cognitive Sciences, Psychology, and Neurocognition (Grenoble University)
- PhD: 2010, University of Geneva, thesis on oculometry and cortical excitability in rTMS therapy for major depressive disorders
Her research bridges neurocognitive mechanisms and emotional processing, with a strong emphasis on developmental psychology and translational neuroscience. She explores how maternal affective states influence attentional functions in both mothers and infants, utilizing advanced neuroimaging and stimulation techniques. Her work also addresses the role of intranasal oxytocin in modulating social behaviors and saccadic paradigms to study emotional interference.
Her publications span neurocognitive development, emotional prosody, and neural plasticity, with recent studies analyzing the perinatal period's impact on maternal and infant cognition. She has contributed to journals such as Hormones and Behavior, Experimental Brain Research, and Journal of Experimental Child Psychology.
Dr. Malsert has supervised numerous Master's theses, including projects on:
- Developmental Attentional Processes (cold vs. hot cognition)
- Emotional Inhibition of Return in maternal populations
- Impact of Summer Camps on social-emotional development
- Cultural Influences on facial emotion recognition
