Jennifer M. Feltman is an Associate Professor of Art History specializing in medieval European art and architecture at the University of Alabama. Her research focuses on Gothic sculptural programs, particularly Last Judgment portals in French cathedrals, and their connections to moral theology, manuscript studies, and architectural design.
Education: PhD (2011), MA (2006) from Florida State University; BS (2002) from the University of Alabama.
Research Interests: She investigates how sculptural programs articulate theological and pastoral ideas, using interdisciplinary methods. Current projects include 3D modeling of polychromy on Notre Dame’s sculptures and developing a VR app for Gothic architecture education. Her work is supported by grants from the NEH, Whiting Foundation, and FACE Foundation.
Publications: Includes monographs on Reims Cathedral’s north transept (2016) and an upcoming book on moral theology and Last Judgment sculptures (2024). She co-edited The Long Lives of Medieval Art and Architecture (2019).
Awards: Recipient of NEH grants, Whiting Foundation support, and service roles in organizations like the International Center of Medieval Art and AVISTA.
