Jennifer Kowitt, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Special Education at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), affiliated with the School of Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education. She joined USJ in 2017 and focuses on learning supports in educational and community settings, particularly high school to post-secondary transition for students with disabilities. Her research emphasizes evidence-based interventions, transition planning, and inclusive educational practices.
Dr. Kowitt holds a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Connecticut, an M.A. from the University of Bristol, and a B.A. from Yale University. She has published extensively in journals such as Remedial and Special Education and Journal of Museum Education, with work spanning topics like autism spectrum disorder interventions, postsecondary disability services, and technology literacy for college readiness.
Her research interests include pivotal response treatment for neurodiverse learners, social support systems for college students with disabilities, and the application of technology in educational settings. She advocates for policy-driven improvements in accessibility and transition services, particularly for marginalized student populations.
Dr. Kowitt’s publications demonstrate a focus on bridging research and practice, with recent work analyzing the impact of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) frameworks in high schools and advancing guidelines for postsecondary disability service research.
