Dr. Jennifer Klein is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at Tyler, where she also serves as the Undergraduate Coordinator for the Criminal Justice Program. She joined UT Tyler in 2014 after earning her Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Criminology, Law, and Society from the University of Florida, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2009. Dr. Klein teaches courses on corrections, criminal law, criminological theory, and policy evaluation at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Her research focuses on sex offender policies, the impacts of sex offender registration systems, moral panics influencing public perception, and the collateral consequences of punitive laws. She has published in journals like American Journal of Criminal Justice and Criminology, with recent work exploring college students’ perceptions of juvenile sex offenders, advocacy efforts for legislative reform, and the economic challenges faced by registered sex offenders.
Dr. Klein’s work often analyzes media coverage of high-profile cases like the Jerry Sandusky scandal, linking legal outcomes to societal reactions. Her studies also highlight how registration laws affect offenders’ families and broader communities, emphasizing the need for evidence-based policy reforms.
