Catherine Carpenter is a Professor at Southwestern Law School, holding multiple endowed professorships including Irving D. and Florence Rosenberg Professor of Law. A nationally renowned scholar in criminal law, her work focuses on sex crimes, sex offender registration laws, and legal education accreditation. She earned a B.A. in English cum laude from UCLA and a J.D. cum laude from Southwestern Law School.
Her research examines legislative responses to sex offenses, juvenile justice, and constitutional challenges in criminal law. She has pioneered studies on the psychological and societal impacts of registration laws, advocating for evidence-based reforms.
Professor Carpenter's publications demonstrate a consistent focus on criminal justice reform, constitutional law, and policy analysis, with recent work critiquing exclusionary legislative trends and advocating for equitable legal frameworks.
