Jennifer Kim is a Professor at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, specializing in gerontological nursing and long-term care. She coordinates older adult healthcare courses for nurse practitioner students and serves as the Principal Investigator for the Middle Tennessee Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP). Dr. Kim holds certifications as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner (GNP-BC) and multiple distinguished fellowships including FAANP and FAAN. Her academic roles include leadership in organizations like the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA), where she previously served as Immediate Past President.
Dr. Kim's education includes a DNP from New York University, an MSN in Gerontological Nursing from Vanderbilt, and a BA from UC Irvine. Her research focuses on deprescribing, long-term care workforce education, and polypharmacy management in older adults. She has authored numerous publications addressing clinical challenges in geriatric care, including dementia management, opioid-benzodiazepine interactions in nursing homes, and nursing home safety during pandemics.
Her awards include the 2023 Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, 2018 Distinguished Educator recognition from the National Hartford Center, and multiple teaching excellence awards. Dr. Kim has also led initiatives to address elder abuse detection, nurse practitioner practice barriers, and competency development for gerontological educators. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and policy to improve healthcare for aging populations.
