Dr. Jennifer Gleason is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Kansas. Her research focuses on molecular evolution, behavioral genetics, and the evolution of courtship signals and preferences in Drosophila. She investigates how genetic changes contribute to sexual isolation between species, often employing quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis and genomic tools to dissect complex traits like courtship song and cuticular hydrocarbons.
Research Interests:
- Molecular mechanisms underlying sexual isolation
- Genetic basis of behavioral traits in insects
- Quantitative genetics and evolutionary genomics
Her work has advanced understanding of how single genes and polygenic architectures influence species divergence. Notably, she received the 2024 Ned Fleming Trust Award for Excellence in Teaching, reflecting her dedication to education alongside research.
Awards:
- 2024 Ned Fleming Trust Award for Excellence in Teaching
Dr. Gleason collaborates on projects involving genomic resources for non-model organisms and integrates field observations with laboratory experiments to study phenology and environmental adaptation. Her lab actively explores the interplay between genotype, environment, and behavior in insects.
