Henry Chung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University, affiliated with the Ecology, Evolution & Behavior Program and the Genetics & Genome Sciences Program. He leads the Chung Lab, which investigates molecular and physiological mechanisms of insect adaptation to environmental stressors and anthropogenic chemicals (e.g., insecticides), with a focus on speciation processes in Drosophila and other insects.
His research encompasses entomology, evolutionary biology, and molecular physiology, with emphasis on:
- Cuticular hydrocarbon biosynthesis and its role in desiccation resistance
- Evolution of insecticide resistance mechanisms
- Host plant adaptation in Lepidoptera
- Genetic basis of environmental adaptation
- Novel pest control strategies
Recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate interdisciplinary work spanning evolutionary genetics, applied pest management, and biochemical adaptations. Predominant themes include insecticide resistance mechanisms, cuticular hydrocarbon functions, nematode control, and Drosophila speciation genetics. Articles frequently integrate molecular biology with ecological applications.
The Chung Lab operates from Giltner Hall at Michigan State University, expanding research from Drosophila models to broader insect systems. Current work explores ozone-based pest control, desert adaptation genetics, and biological nematode management.
