Jennifer Gaffney is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Graduate Program Director at Loyola University Chicago's Department of Philosophy. She joined Loyola in 2020 after teaching at Gettysburg College. Her research focuses on social/political philosophy, continental European philosophy (especially Hannah Arendt), diasporic studies, and the exclusion of marginalized groups from liberal states. She holds a PhD in Philosophy and an MA in History (Caribbean/Atlantic history) from Texas A&M University, alongside a BA in Philosophy from Rhodes College.
Research Interests: Her work examines the limits of liberal citizenship, historical memory, and diasporic identities. Notable publications include Political Loneliness: Modern Liberal Subjects in Hiding (2020) and articles in Philosophy and Social Criticism, Research in Phenomenology, and Philosophy Today.
Professional Contributions: She directs Loyola's graduate philosophy program and participates in research groups like the Loyola Ethics and Values Symposia. Her scholarship bridges Arendtian thought with contemporary issues of political exclusion and historical justice.
