Jennifer D. T. Kruschwitz

Jennifer D. T. Kruschwitz is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona since 2011, with a career spanning optical engineering, color science, and technical consulting. She has taught at the Institute since 2007, focusing on optical interference coatings and colorimetry.

• Educated at the University of Rochester (BS, MS in Optics) and Rochester Institute of Technology (PhD in Color Science).
• Founder of JK Consulting (1998), designing optical coatings for products like the IMAX Laser Cinema Projector and Perriquest’s Laser Blocking Eyewear.
• Technical Sales Support for OptiLayer Software across North/South America, Middle East, and Australia.

Her research centers on calibration targets for multispectral imaging, enabling spectral reflectance reconstruction in fields like ophthalmology, dermatology, and dentistry. She holds five patents and two pending in optical interference coatings, with over twenty publications and a 2018 book A Field Guide to Colorimetry and Fundamental Color Modeling via SPIE Press.

Dr. Kruschwitz is a Senior Member of Optica, having served on the Board of Directors (2004-5), as President of the Rochester Local Section (2007), and as a Technical Committee Member for the Optical Interference Coatings Topical Meeting since 1997. She received the 2012 Technology Woman of the Year award for her contributions to optics and advocacy for women in tech.
