Jennifer Carter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University's Case School of Engineering, and serves as Faculty Director of the Swagelok Center for Surface Analysis of Materials. Her research focuses on processing-structure-property relationships in materials, multi-scale characterization techniques, and applying machine learning to materials engineering challenges. She actively explores active learning pedagogies to enhance engineering education.
Her research interests include mechanical behavior of non-ferrous alloys, bulk metallic glasses, composites, and elevated temperature material responses. She employs advanced methods such as X-ray/neutron diffraction, electron microscopy, and digital image correlation for deformation analysis.
Carter has received notable awards including the TMS International Scholar Award (2019), TMS ASM Bradley Stoughton Award for Young Teachers (2016), and ASM Mentor Fellow (2015). Her publications span topics like data-driven material design, creep life prediction in steels, and nanoscale precipitate analysis in superalloys.
Her work emphasizes leveraging legacy data and interdisciplinary approaches to solve grand challenges in materials science. She collaborates on projects involving metallic glass composites and grain boundary dynamics in superalloys.
