Jennifer Angus is a Professor of Design Studies and Kay Vaughan Faculty Fellow of Design + Innovation at the University of Wisconsin–Madison's School of Human Ecology. She teaches in the Textile and Apparel Design Program and is affiliated with the Art Department. Her work focuses on pattern’s cultural narrative potential in textiles and large-scale insect installations that provoke engagement with ecological issues. She leads the Global Artisans Initiative (GAI), an interdisciplinary program empowering global artisans through microenterprise development, leveraging UW-Madison’s international partnerships in Ecuador, India, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, and Vietnam.
Education: MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago, BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
Research interests combine textile design with ecological advocacy through art. Her installations, described as 'provocative' by ArtDaily, use insect patterns to challenge perceptions of nature. She advocates for sustainable fashion practices to reduce environmental impact. The GAI has transformed artisans' livelihoods, such as Mexican lace makers who now create high-value jewelry.
Professional activities include exhibitions at major institutions like the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery and collaborations with organizations like Nepal’s Association for Craft Producers. She actively integrates student participation in global design projects and cultural exchange initiatives.
