Jennie Bullen is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Attention, Brain & Cognitive Development (ABCD) lab at the University of Oxford's Department of Experimental Psychology, supervised by Dr. Gaia Scerif. She leads the MathMIND Project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), investigating mathematical development in children with genetic conditions (Fragile X, Williams, and Down syndromes). Her research focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum disorder, and the interplay between cognitive development, educational outcomes, and clinical assessment tools.
Dr. Bullen holds a PhD in Human Development from the University of California, Davis, and completed postdoctoral training at UC Davis MIND Institute as an Autism Research Training Program Fellow. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Psychology and French, and an M.S. in Psychology from the University of Michigan.
Her work bridges developmental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and educational interventions, emphasizing longitudinal studies and diagnostic tool validation. Current projects explore behavioral gender differences in autistic children, social cognition factors, and the construct validity of assessment scales like the Childhood Joint Attention Rating Scale (C-JARS).
Key research themes include: 1) Mathematical learning trajectories in neurodevelopmental conditions; 2) Social-attention mechanisms in autism; 3) Translational research linking cognitive assessments to educational support strategies. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across clinical and academic institutions.
