معرفی
Professor Gaia Scerif is a Professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of St Catherine's College. She holds the role of Associate Head for Education. Her academic journey includes a BSc from the University of St Andrews, a PhD from University College London (UCL), and postdoctoral research at Cornell University and the University of Nottingham before joining Oxford in 2006.
Her research focuses on attentional control mechanisms, neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., fragile X syndrome, Williams syndrome, autism, ADHD), and their impact on learning and behavior. She emphasizes translational research to inform educational and clinical practices. Key themes include neuroplasticity, genetic influences on cognitive development, and methodological innovations for remote studies.
Recent work explores executive function interventions in toddlers, the neurocognitive basis of decision-making in neurodivergent populations, and global health initiatives in low-resource settings. Her projects often involve interdisciplinary collaborations and community engagement, such as co-produced interventions and policy proposals for sustainable human-environmental flourishing.
Publications span neuroscience, developmental psychology, and educational interventions. She has contributed to systematic reviews on parent-led executive function training and non-pharmacological interventions for motor difficulties in neurodivergent children.
Professor Scerif’s work is supported by grants focusing on early childhood development, HIV-affected populations, and global equity in research representation. She advocates for inclusive methodologies, particularly involving marginalized communities in South Africa and Kenya.
