معرفی
Jenni Sherriff is a Quaternary sedimentologist and researcher at the Centre for Quaternary Research within the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London. She teaches undergraduate modules including Geographical Research & Field Training, Geographical Techniques, Earth Surface Processes & Hazards, and Mediterranean Landscapes & Environmental Change, while also contributing to the MSc Quaternary Science course through specialized instruction in Techniques in Quaternary Research and Palaeoecology.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Quaternary Science (2015), MSc in Quaternary Science (2010), and BSc in Environmental Science (2009), all from Royal Holloway, University of London and the University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on terrestrial environment change and hominin-landscape interactions during the Pleistocene, utilizing field mapping, sedimentology, micromorphology, and sediment geochemistry. Current study areas encompass the British Isles and Southern Caucasus, with particular emphasis on fluvial sequences and Palaeolithic sites.
Analysis of her publication trends reveals consistent focus on Pleistocene environmental reconstruction across two geographic regions, with methodological emphasis on tephrostratigraphy, stable isotope analysis, and site formation processes. Her work bridges archaeology and earth sciences, particularly examining how Middle Pleistocene interglacials are expressed in terrestrial records through biogenic and abiogenic carbonate analysis.
As Principal Investigator for The Leakey Foundation-funded project The Early Pleistocene Settlement of Northern Armenia (2020-2021), she leads significant research on Pleistocene Hunter-Gatherers in Northern Armenia and related projects including Predicting Palaeolithic Archaeology in England and research on the Ararat Depression. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental protection and understanding human-environment interactions throughout geological time.
Her research collaborations span international networks with significant activity in Armenia and the UK, as evidenced by co-authorship on multiple publications involving institutions across Europe. She has been involved in major projects including the Palaeolithic Potential of Pleistocene Deposits in England (PrePArE), Pleistocene Archaeology, Geochronology & Environments of the Southern Caucasus (PAGES), and the Ancient Human Occupation of Britain (AHOB III).
