Keith Wilkinson

Professor Keith Wilkinson is a Professor of Geoarchaeology at the University of Winchester, affiliated with the School of Humanities. He serves as Director of ARCA, the university's commercial arm for geoarchaeology and geomatics programs, which he founded in 2004. He has held academic positions at Winchester since 1997, progressing from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer, Reader, and ultimately Professor. His research focuses on geoarchaeology, particularly the Pleistocene geology of the Southern Caucasus and the application of remote sensing techniques in archaeological prospection.

Wilkinson obtained his undergraduate degree in Archaeology from University College London (1989) and a PhD in 1993, studying palaeoenvironmental dynamics in the South Downs. He teaches Archaeology and Geography at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising research students in geoarchaeology, Mediterranean landscape archaeology, and Palaeolithic archaeology.

His current research includes the Debed Palaeolithic Project in Armenia and the Trou al' Wesse cave excavation in Belgium. He has led or co-led projects funded by organizations such as the Leakey Foundation, Leverhulme Trust, and Historic England, focusing on topics like Pleistocene human occupation and environmental reconstruction. Wilkinson's work integrates geochemical, sedimentological, and chronological analyses to understand hominin behavior and landscape use in prehistoric contexts.

His publications span books, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing geoarchaeological methodologies and regional studies in Armenia, Corsica, and other Mediterranean regions. He actively collaborates with international teams, contributing to advancements in dating techniques and site formation processes.
