Jenna D. Shapka is a Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education at the University of British Columbia, affiliated with the Faculty of Education. She is on leave from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026.
Scholarly Interests: Her research focuses on adolescent development, cyberbullying, technology impact, gender, and social-emotional development, particularly how digital contexts influence wellbeing. She examines online privacy risks, self-regulation, and attachment-based smartphone use.
Selected Publications highlight her work on cyberbullying prevalence, digital addiction frameworks, and cross-cultural studies in Canada and Tanzania. Her research also addresses self-determination theory in educational support and linguistic analysis in Indigenous and settler communities.

Lab: She leads the DC Tech Lab, investigating adolescent technology engagement and developmental outcomes.
