Dr. Jenn Brandt serves as Professor and Chair of Women’s Studies within the College of Arts & Humanities at California State University Dominguez Hills. Previously, she held the position of assistant professor of English and director of Women’s and Gender Studies at High Point University, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to gender studies and interdisciplinary scholarship.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in English Literature with a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies from the University of Rhode Island, an M.A. in Popular Culture from Bowling Green State University, and a B.A. in English Literature from Drew University.
Dr. Brandt's research critically examines the interplay between identity narratives and systemic inequality, emphasizing the political dimensions of contemporary culture. Currently, she investigates digital media's role in cultural representation, focusing on women writers' rhetorical strategies and the feminist intellectual in public discourse. Her scholarship bridges cultural studies, gender theory, and political analysis to address pressing social issues.
Among her notable publications is the co-authored book An Introduction to Popular Culture in the US: People, Power, and Politics (2018), which analyzes the nexus of popular culture, power structures, and political dynamics in American society. Her work consistently contributes to understanding how cultural production reflects and shapes societal power relations.
As an educator, Dr. Brandt has earned national recognition for her teaching, leading to invitations to speak at universities, museums, and conferences across the country. Her leadership as Chair of Women’s Studies underscores her dedication to advancing gender equity and interdisciplinary education.
