Jelena Farkić

Dr. Jelena Farkić is a Lecturer at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), affiliated with the Academy for Tourism Research's Tourism Impacts on Society group. Previously, she held roles such as Programme Leader for Hospitality Management at the University of Greenwich, Head of Tourism Product Development at Serbia's Tourism Organisation, and MSc Ecotourism Programme Leader at the University of the Highlands and Islands. She actively contributes to editorial boards (e.g., Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning) and coordinates the International Adventure Conference. Her research focuses on lived experiences in tourism, wellbeing enhancement via concepts like slow adventure and forest therapy, and qualitative methodologies. She is a certified Forest Wellness Mediator and advocates for social sustainability and accessibility in tourism.

Research Interests: Jelena explores embodied experiences through phenomenological and ethnographic approaches, emphasizing sensory engagement and memory in tourism contexts. Her work addresses wellbeing (One Health, natural selfness), accessibility (e.g., assistance dogs in travel), and innovative tourism practices (slow cultural tourism, medieval healing revival). She collaborates globally, evidenced by projects like RTEL: Resilient Tourism Ecosystems and Forts in Transition.
