Jelena Beocanin

Jelena Beocanin is a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Department of History, Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). She holds a bachelor's in anthropology from the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Philosophy and a joint master's degree from the University of Glasgow, University of Barcelona, and EUR. Her research focuses on postcolonial port cities, analyzing how hip-hop culture and music shape emotional practices of resistance beyond conventional subcultural frameworks.

As a lecturer, she teaches bachelor courses and supervises thesis projects at EUR's Department of History. Her interdisciplinary work bridges historical studies with cultural analysis, emphasizing the intersection of politics and popular culture in urban contexts.
