Jeffrey Treistman is an Associate Professor in the Department of National Security/Homeland Security at the University of New Haven’s Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice & Forensic Sciences. Holding a Ph.D. in International Relations & Public Policy (Syracuse, 2017), an M.A. in Economics (Syracuse, 2012), an M.P.P. in International & Global Affairs (Harvard, 2010), and a B.A. in History (University of Colorado, 2003), Dr. Treistman bridges military policy, economics, and terrorism analysis in his research.
His peer-reviewed works span asymmetric warfare, counterinsurgency strategy, cybersecurity for critical infrastructure, and terrorism radicalization mechanisms, with a 2022 book critiquing counterinsurgency assumptions. He also contributes op-eds to outlets like The Hill on topics including Ukraine, right-wing extremism, and national security implications of domestic policy decisions.
Dr. Treistman serves on the editorial board for Studies in Conflict & Terrorism and has consulted for the Department of Defense’s AFRICOM and the Department of State in Iraq. He teaches courses such as Terrorism, Revolutions, & Insurgencies and The Economics of National Security, while frequently appearing in media outlets like BBC, CBC, and Forbes to analyze geopolitical crises.
