معرفی
Jeffrey Potoff is the Chair and Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Wayne State University (WSU). He has held academic roles including Chair (2020–present), Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2016–2020), and Professor (2014–present). His research focuses on computational materials science, developing algorithms and software like GOMC and MoSDeF to predict material properties and phase behavior. Key projects include wax nucleation in oil pipelines, environmental fate of PFAS, and hybrid simulation methods.
Education: Postdoctoral studies in Chemistry at the University of Minnesota (2000), Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University (1999), and B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University (1994).
Research interests emphasize atom-based simulations (Monte Carlo/Molecular Dynamics), software development, and training students in programming and open-source projects. His lab supports remote research opportunities for undergraduates and high school students, fostering STEM engagement globally.
Notable awards include the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2014), Detroit AICHE Chemical Engineer of the Year (2008), and multiple teaching excellence recognitions. His work bridges computational methods with real-world applications in energy, environment, and materials design.
