Professor Jeffrey McGee is a leading academic in international law, climate governance, and Antarctic policy at the University of Tasmania. As a Professor in the School of Law and affiliated with the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, he specializes in global environmental governance, Antarctic Treaty System dynamics, and climate intervention technologies. His research bridges legal frameworks and geopolitical strategies, addressing challenges such as climate change adaptation, marine conservation, and territorial disputes in polar regions.
Jeffrey holds degrees from Australian National University (BA/LLB), Macquarie University (PhD in Environment and Geography), and the University of Newcastle (MEnvStud). Before academia, he practiced law in defense and private sectors, later transitioning to academic roles including Associate Dean Research at the University of Tasmania and Director of the Australian Forum for Climate Intervention Governance (AFCIG).
His work critiques institutional strategies for climate change mitigation, focusing on geoengineering governance, carbon removal technologies, and Antarctic policy evolution. Over 137 publications span journals like International Environmental Agreements and edited volumes analyzing geopolitical trends, legal frameworks, and environmental ethics.
