معرفی
Jeffrey Maurice Peters is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences and Deputy Director of the Penn State Cancer Institute. His research focuses on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) and their role in cancer development and prevention.
- Postdoctoral training at the National Cancer Institute (1995–1999) and University of California at Davis (1992–1995)
- External position: Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (2012–present)
Dr. Peters’ laboratory investigates how PPARs modulate gene expression via direct and indirect mechanisms, using genetically modified mouse models and human studies to explore their roles in cancers. His team examines how dietary and metabolic lipids, along with natural compounds, influence PPAR activity to enhance chemoprevention and chemotherapy efficacy.
His recent research outputs highlight PPAR biology in liver and skin cancer, environmental disease modulation, and toxicant responses. Notable projects include targeting PPARβ/δ for cancer therapy and studying AhR-dependent signaling pathways.
- Scientific Awards
- Fellow, Academy of Toxicological Sciences (2012)
- Toxicological Sciences Paper of the Year (2023–2025)
Dr. Peters leads multiple NIH-funded projects and collaborates with researchers like A. D. Patterson and G. H. Perdew. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and scientific education.
