Dr. Jeffrey Lehman is an Assistant Professor of Education at Hillsdale College, known for his commitment to classical education and liberal arts. He joined Hillsdale from Biola University and Thomas Aquinas College, relocating his family to Michigan from California. His teaching focuses on foundational liberal arts disciplines such as Logic, Rhetoric, and the Quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy). He coordinates the Education Department’s teacher apprenticeship program, linking students with classical schools like Hillsdale Academy.
Lehman emphasizes the role of liberal education in freeing students from ignorance and vice, advocating against narrow specialization. His courses, including 'Master Teachers in the Western Tradition,' explore historical educators like Socrates, Augustine, and Shakespeare. He actively supports Hillsdale’s Charter School Initiative, which promotes classical curricula in public education to bridge past wisdom with modern challenges.
Lehman’s research interests center on the integration of truth, goodness, and beauty in education, inspired by thinkers like Augustine. He values the Midwest’s family-oriented culture and sees Hillsdale’s mission as aligning with its commitment to truth and liberty.
