Dr. Jeffrey Layne Blevins is a Professor at the University of Cincinnati’s School of Public and International Affairs and Faculty Fellow at the Center for Cyber Strategy and Policy. His expertise spans digital politics, media policy, and social justice, with a focus on the intersection of technology and democratic governance. He holds a Ph.D. in Telecommunication from Ohio University (2001) and prior degrees in Mass Communication from Southern Illinois University.
Research & Awards: Blevins’ work includes acclaimed books such as Social Media and Digital Politics: Networked Reason in an Age of Digital Emotion (2025, Routledge) and Social Media, Social Justice, and the Political Economy of Online Networks (2022), which won the 2023 National Indie Book Award. His research analyzes social media’s impact on political discourse, networked activism, and regulatory frameworks.
Grants & Collaborations: Collaborator on grants including a $900,000 Mellon Foundation project (2018–2020) for digital scholarship and a UC-led project on storytelling and social justice (2019–2020). His work bridges academia and policy, with federal grant experience (NTIA, 2009) and frequent media commentary for outlets like the Washington Post and NPR.
